The City of Modesto Neighborhood Preservation Unit (NPU) has launched a new program called V.A.C.E. (Volunteers Assisting Code Enforcement). This city/community partnership was formed to empower neighborhoods to make Modesto a better place to live. It is a proactive enforcement program designed to address the specific code enforcement needs of neighborhoods.

V.A.C.E. targets junk and debris on properties, tall weeds, fences in ill repair and other blight issues affecting neighborhoods. V.A.C.E. volunteers are neighborhood residents who receive training from NPU in the identification of code violations. Volunteers then go back into their neighborhoods to identify and report the gross violations of code to the City.

Today, V.A.C.E. groups are starting to form all over the community to address the blight facing neighborhoods. If your neighborhood is interested in starting a V.A.C.E. program, contact the NPU at (209) 571-5822 or e-mail.
