Incident Duties


"We Care"

The Modesto Fire Department places the utmost value on the safety of it's personnel.    This instruction is provided under controlled environments and by certified instructors in the field.  The Training Division also provides on-going "Incident Safety Officer" and "Emergency Rehab" training to all suppression companies.  In addition, the Training Division responds to alarms where these skills are needed.  Training Division personnel will either fill these positions or see that they are implemented.

The Safety Officer assists the incident commander ensuring safety remains the top priority.  The officer will perform a 3600 scene evaluation determining the integrity of the environment and assessing environment stability.   Duties give priority to:

  • Risk vs. Gain Review

  • Reconnaissance

  • Resource Evaluation

  • Reporting and Planning
