Modesto Vacuum & Sewing Center Sew-A-Bear Drive

Modesto Vacuum and Sewing Center continued the Sew-A-Bear drive for the third year. Volunteers created these bears out of love so emergency crews can use them to comfort children in unfortunate circumstances. Nearly 50 people from our community help cut, sew, and stuff the 250 bears that were delivered to Fire Station #1 on September 13.

The volunteers range in age from 9 to 90-years of age and came from loyal customers of the sewing center, the Girl Scouts (Troop 303), friends, and members from a local church sewing bee. Mrs. Colleen Edwards and her husband Gary who own the Vacuum and Sewing Center organized this event, which has created over 600 bears that have been distributed by the fire crews. Many of the bears have found their way to shelters here in town, and used to comfort the children in such places as the Women's Haven. The Fire Department wishes to thank the Edwards for their dedication to this project and to the community.
